First steps in the fashion
posted on 3.8.2025
I got my first lolita dress in 2023, as well as a matching blouse and a hoop skirt. I had been aware of lolita fashion for a long time, since I liked watching some fashion youtubers in elementary school. I also used to collect Pullip family dolls, and my favorite of them that I never sadly got was Dal Joujou, wearing AP's Dreamy Dollhouse OP in mint.
A new anime-kawaii-cosplay-whatever store had opened near me, and I went to check it out. And they had lolita dresses there! I was looking at the dresses and an employee asked if I wanted to try one on. I said yes, and they brought me a blouse and a hoop skirt to try on with it. And I completely fell in love with it, it just instantly felt so right.
Before that I had barely considered the possibility that I could actually look cute. I'm tall for a girl, liked keeping my hair short, was bad at makeup and just generally insecure. I guess I expected the dress to look out of place on me, the way most girly clothes tend to do, but it somehow didn't!
Being completely honest, my first coord was a total impulse buy and I hadn't done any real
research in the fashion at all. The dress was mediocre quality and I paid over double the price
for it that it actually went for. Embarrassing, I know, please don't do what I did.
After that I spent a few months researching lolita fashion and watching whatever lolita content I found. I settled on the first brand dress I wanted to buy, which ended up being the Ribbon Milky Sugar JSK by BTSSB. I got a white blouse to go with it, as well as a pink headbow and lace-top OTKs from Baby, pink platform shoes from Meta and a Melikestea petticoat.
That coord wasn't amazing either, but things went uphill from there! ^-^
